Part of creating something new is looking back at work we have done before. As artists, we are always in search of inspiration but sometimes we overlook one of the most valuable source: our own work.
After we invest so much time and effort to get a project out the door, especially when it is something as complex as a documentary, it can be hard to revisit it. We so are excited to move on and experience the excitement of new ideas that we miss out on the spark that might come from looking back.
Another hinderance to looking at older work is we may find things we would have done differently given what we have learned in the meantime. When we put our work into the world, not only do we capture moments within the stories we tell, we also capture a moment in our development as artists, creators, and change-makers.
The footage in the video above is from the early days of the collaboration between the executive producers of Life After the Gunshot, Doc and Che. The nature of their relationship has evolved since this time but the seeds of their work together were already being planted. You can learn more about that in Episode 1.
Over the course of the years since these interviews were recorded a lot has happened. It is fortunate that this document exists to show how far they have come.
